Baka & Test: Summon the Beasts

When a fight breaks out at Fumizuki Academy, nobody throws a single punch. Instead, the students utilize the school’s technology to summon Avatars, pint-sized stand-ins with battle powers based on academic ability. That “academic ability” part is bad news for Yoshii: he’s an idiot, stuck in lowly Class F with the slackers. If these misfits want to escape their dump of a classroom and earn some respect, they’ll have to fight their way up the ranks and take on Class A, the Academy’s brightest students. It’s going to be tough, that’s for sure, but once the underachievers of Class F get motivated, they don’t give up... and Yoshii can’t even spell surrender!

Death Kappa

In Japanese folklore, the kappa are water goblins closely associated with a certain town in the country. Unfortunately, the area is also home to a militant splinter group of researchers dedicated to developing amphibious super soldiers based on the kappa of legends. When their experiments result in murders by some escapees, the appearance of an actual kappa, and the triggering of an atomic bomb, the consequences are of epic proportions. A monster arrives in the midst of the nuclear fallout and Japan’s defenses are helpless against it. Mankind’s only savior is an irradiated water goblin on a rampage with death in its eyes.

This Is Otakudom

It’s not about you. It’s about the guy sitting next to you. Combine This is Spinal Tap with Otaku no Video and you get this love letter to all anime fans that have ever attended a convention. Suzie Sweetrie talks her friends into attending Otakon, while their escapades are being recorded by documentarian Marty Cinemacher. This fan film spoofs all different kinds of fans and features fake commercials, fake interviews, music-video style bits, really atrocious singing, and tons and tons of jokes. It’s anime; it has a lot of music; it’s done by an AMV creator (and 40 of his closest friends); and it’s all about anime fans. What more can you ask for, really?

Zebraman

The year is 2010. Shinichi (Sho Aikawa) is a second-rate third grade teacher who gets no respect from his family and little from his students. It seems that in 1978 he fell in love with a TV super hero named Zebraman that was cancelled shortly after airing. The show was set in 2010, so this year he sews himself a makeshift Zebraman costume and slinks around the city at night. His harmless escapism becomes reality when he runs into a half-crab, half-man enemy of the same TV show and begins to realize the stories of Zebraman and his strange alien enemies were actually prophecies and that by making his Zebraman suit he elected himself to fulfill those prophecies. Now he must be the superhero of his fantasies or let the earth fall to cute little green aliens bent on conquering our green world.

The future of anime is about to be rewritten. And censored. And edited. In the not-so-distant future anime, fandom is everywhere and everyone is an otaku. However, all is not well in this fanboy paradise! The corporate giant Megatainment controls all anime in the US and horribly butchers classic shows to make a buck. A small group of fans has had enough and tries to take down the evil monopoly. What can possibly go wrong?

ª Sengoku Basara Two

The second season witnesses the emergence of Toyotomi Hideyoshi as the next potential unifier of the land. Unlike in actual history, he has no connection to Oda Nobunaga, whose retainers were almost entirely wiped out along with him by the end of the first season. Beyond this, any resemblance to actual history is coincidental; as they say, this is how it happened, not how it was recorded! Date Masamune and Sanada Yukimura are back! These two, along with all of Japan’s toughest warlords, are on the move again, leading massive armies against their rivals in a thrilling quest for total domination. Wielding insane weaponry and unleashing the elements to boost their already awesome power, these warrior generals roar into the fray atop turbo-charged stallions, slicing through the enemy with six blades at once. They brandish explosive shotguns and swing swords the size of men. They crush the opposition with rolling battle fortresses and incinerate their foes with solar death rays. Hordes of ninja assassins and samurai fight to vanquish every adversary in their sight. As loyalties crumble and new alliances are forged in the scorching heat of battle, heroes become conquerors and conquerors become legends. This is war!
